Danica Patrick has moved on after her breakup with Aaron Rodgers, but she has admitted the end of the relationship left her “broken open.”
Rodgers announced his engagement to actress Shailene Woodley earlier this year, but the former race car driver says the split from the NFL MVP last summer taught her a lot about herself.
“I think we learn the most about ourselves through relationships, but there’s nothing like heartbreak to really throw you in the deep end of that,” she said this week on an episode of Running Wild with Bear Grylls. “But I’ve learned a lot and as broken open as I was on the sad end, I have felt so much joy in so many more instances and so many more unlikely places than I ever have, so it’s like my heart got broken open to both ends of the spectrum.”
Patrick, 39, and Rodgers, 37, were first linked in early 2018 and purchased a pad in Malibu, Calif., together later that year.
An avowed Chicago Bears fan, the Wisconsin native supported her Green Bay Packers beau both on and off the field during their two-year romance, regularly posting about Rogers’ accomplishments on the field to her Instagram page.
“While Aaron’s greatness is measured and very very impressive on the field, he should also be known for the great human he is off the field,” she shared on Instagram in 2019 after Rodgers threw 429 yards and five touchdowns.
“Every weekend there is a group of amazing people that fly from far and wide to support him, some new friends (many are my old friends) but most he has had for decades,” she wrote. “Yesterday was one of those days where there was so much to celebrate beyond just being together. Perfect passer rating. Fastest QB to reach 350 TD in history. Also, a highly ranked game in passing yards and in TDs.
“Plus the hotness!” Patrick added. “Lucky girl.”

Patrick also once compared their relationship to a Shakespearean tragedy on the Jenny McCarthy Show on Sirius XM back in May 2018.
“We refer to each other as Chicago and Green Bay, it’s very cute,” she said. “It’s like the Capulets and the Montagues, you know?”
Following the split, Patrick went back to cheering for the Bears.
“This is a workshop on understanding emotions,” she posted to her Instagram Story last fall as the Bears played in the background.
She also said her next boyfriend will have to work to earn her love.
“The next guy has his work cut out for him because my intuition, my standards, my boundaries, my wants and needs are off the charts,” Patrick said during an appearance on the Rachel Hollis Show.
“‘Cause I’ve gotten to know me so much more, so it’s gonna be so much more narrow and specific. And I think that’s the challenge with a relationship.”
